Psalms 66-69 are songs of praise wrote for the Chief Musicians. Psalms 67 is given to the Chief Musicians on Neginoth or stringed instruments. Psalms 69 is given to the Chief Musician upon Shoshannim or to those that shall be changed. The Psalms are a song of praise to God not only for what God has done for David but what He has also done for the Israelites.
David tells them in Psalms 66:1 "make a joyful noise unto God all ye lands." He reminds the Israelites of all the things God has done for them like the parting of the sea so they could cross on dry land.
Both Verse 3 and 5 in Psalms 67 tell us, "Let the people praise thee, Oh God; let all the people praise thee." It tells them if they do this then God will bless them and their land. Then as today, we need to turn back to God and God will bless us and heal our land.
Psalms 68 is the righteous vs the wicked. It says let the wicked perish before God but let the righte
ous rejoice in Him and be glad. In verse 4 it says, "Sing unto God, sing praises to His name; extol him that rideth upon the heavens by His name JAH (the everlasting), and rejoice before Him."
While Psalms 69 is for those seeking salvation, I also see parts of it that could be thoughts and feelings of Christ on his way to the cross. It tells us that praising God's name and magnifying Him with thanksgiving will please Him more than offerings of ox or bullocks.
As we go into worship, let us remember that all we do, we do to praise and glorify God. We not be the best singer but God hears the words. Several of you sing in the choir and I am blessed each week by the singing. I believe that we have the best choir and I think it is because you believe what you are singing and you are singing praise to God. As we go through the Psalms, I wonder how many songs that we sing now can we find in them.
Welcome to a group of women who's goal is to encourage each other to put down some serious roots in the Word of God. This blog is dedicated to reading through the Bible in a year. Hopefully you will find the encouragement and accountability here that you need to push through the tough parts- or when life just gets in the way. The reading plan is located at the bottom of the blog. It contains links to the passages we are reading through biblegateway.com. You can use those links or read your own Bible, whichever you prefer.

The children from VBS who sang His praises this morning in the worship service is what praising Him is all about. They come to God with open and tender hearts and voices. I love to hear children sing praises to the Lord. How heart-warming and refreshing is a young child singing about Our God?! Just amazing!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so VERY true Angela! It was just amazing to be a part of VBS and to see these children with open and heart-felt worship to our Lord! The Psalms are just SO FULL of wonderful songs! We often fail to remember that the Psalms were actually sung and not said. You always have great nuggets of wisdom Ms. Boots - thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the psalms, and enjoy reading them along with you all. What a tremendous blessing! I echo your thoughts on corporate worship, Mindy and Angela. And, something about hearing these words set to music excites me.....I wonder if the Israelites had the same emotions??? I have to believe they did.
ReplyDeleteI just have to agree with Angela and Mindy on the children singing praises to God. I don't know about others but as I sat and listen to them I was just so happy down deep in my heart and soul. We see the importance of VBS as we see the wonderful work shown in these children. Special thanks to all that gave of their time and their love to work with them. I know your lives was richly blessed by this.
ReplyDeleteI too thoroughly enjoyed the kids' singing yesterday. LOVED IT!
ReplyDeleteSeveral "fun" verses popped out at me in these Psalms. In 67:1-2, we see that God's plan is to use Christians to reflect Him to others. Even as part of the Israelites and the tribe of Judah, David knew that God was the savior of ALL nations and that other nations needed to know God.
"The Lord announces the word, and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng" (68:11) The WOMEN... are mighty :)
In 69:31, God is more pleased with our praise of Him and thankful hearts than he is with sacrifices. You are right, Ms. Boots... God hears our words regardless of the sound and I'm thankful for that :)
