Chapter seven verse ten stuck out to me.
Do not say, “Why were the old days better than these?” For it is not wise to ask such questions.
How can you move forward if you are always looking back? How can you see what you are gaining if you are always looking back at what you are losing? It is all about perspective. So many quarrels and frustrations could be avoided if we just change our perspective.
Our lives are so short. Death is inevitable. Enjoy what you have while you have it but keep in check that hard times can happen at any time. It can all be gone in an instant. Then what will you have? Do you have Jesus - the only thing that makes sense of life on earth? Do you desire wisdom? True wisdom comes from knowing and trusting God. That is all that matters in life!
Great post, Amy! Your summary of some tough chapters is comforting :) I agree with your point of "It is all about perspective." Where are our thoughts? What do our hearts long for? What do we consider important? How do we spend our time? Thanks for the reminder to keep looking forward and to Jesus!
ReplyDeleteThis post comes at a time that it is causing me to think about some things. My youngest daughter loves nice things and has got things she really couldn't afford. This week her husband was very sick and they do not have insurance. He had to go to the ER two or three times. It was then she realized she could do without all these material things in her life. What is important to her is God and family. Sometimes we forget that and look for material things to satisfy us but it never completely does. God can satisfy the longing in our souls. Very good post, Amy. Thanks so much for making us think of what is important in our lives.
ReplyDeleteI loved your comments Amy. We do have to be careful of "wanting stuff." That's why I hate to go to Walmart. They have such beautiful displays and home decorations - plates, pillows, patio decorations, etc. - and I find myself looking at them all and it whets your appetite for more, more, more. My mother used to say, "there are no pockets in a shoud." How right she was. We need to learn to be content with what we have and like you say, the only meaning in this life is God.
ReplyDeleteAmy I love the picture with the rear-view mirror! How true...how true. Again, perspective. Love it. And Mrs. Barbara, I love your mom's quote- "there are no pockets in a should" No. There aren't. We certainly get enough exposure to all the stuff we "should" have on a daily basis! It can be hard to turn it off...but we shouldn't be focused on what we don't have, but what we do!
ReplyDeleteWOW Amy! Your post really packed a punch! I LOVE IT!!! If we keep an eternal perspective on things, it helps to keep things in balance and in their proper perspective. Satan just loves to trap us with the lie of more, more, more. The ONLY THING THAT MATTERS is JESUS!!!
ReplyDeleteNo pockets in a shroud!!!!!! AH! :)
ReplyDelete7:10 "Do not say, 'Why were the old days better than these?' For it is not wise to ask such questions." Amy, I'm with ya on that one..... remember Voddie??? :) You might be guilty of idolatry, if you're trying to attain the past days again!!! (ie: 70s, 50s, 1900s, 1776,)
